The Canon EF lens 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is a superb lens that covers nearly every professional wide-angle task.
Outstanding optical performance comes from three Aspherical lens elements, and (for the first time ever in an EF wide-angle zoom lens) two Ultra-low Dispersion UD elements. Weather-resistant construction, a rear gel filter holder, close-focusing to 11 inches (0.28m) and a circular diaphragm are among its many highlights.
It has been specifically designed for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the strict requirements of professional and high-end amateur photographers. It features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo for even better image quality than the original EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. The circular aperture produces a beautiful and natural background blur when shooting at wider apertures. Other features include internal focusing, a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor), and new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing.

Ultra-Wide Zoom
Broaden your perspective with this lens. The wide angle allows you to bring more area into focus and provides greater depth of field. The zoom range allows you to make small adjustments to the coverage of your shot for more creative control.
The lens has an EF mount to work with the EOS line of cameras. Other than the front element, it is sealed against dust and water, and features a diaphragm which remains nearly circular from f/2.8 to f/5.6.
The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM was replaced by the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM early in 2007.
